VWS Westgarth celebrates completion of Gimboa and Saxi-Batuque water treatment modules

Gimboa

VWS Westgarth, a Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies company, recently celebrated the completion of two projects; Saipem's FPSO Gimboa and SBM's FPSO Saxi-Batuque.

The Gimboa module is a water injection treatment package for the FPSO Gimboa, which operates in the Block 4/05 Field, deepwater offshore Angola. This module includes a membrane based Sulphate Removal Package (SRP). A Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) system is also included, sized for 4,529BPD.

The SRP is designed to the demanding engineering standards and materials specifications required by the oil & gas industry, and in service will produce 60,000BPD (9,540m3/day) of low sulphate sea water for injection.

The membranes employed in the SRP remove sulphate and other divalent ions from the sea water prior to injection, greatly reducing the tendency for barium sulphate and strontium sulphate scale to form in the reservoir and production system. The reduced sulphate content also minimises the risk of souring in the reservoir.

Saxi-Batuque

The Saxi-Batuque module is a water injection treatment package for the FPSO Saxi-Batuque which will contribute to the expansion of the Block 15 field, located deepwater offshore Angola, by Exxon Mobil. This module includes a membrane based Sulphate Removal Package (SRP). A Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) system is also included, sized for 21,000BPD.

The SRP is designed to the demanding engineering standards and materials specifications required by the oil & gas industry, and in service will produce 150,000BPD of low sulphate sea water for injection.

Both Gimboa and Saxi-Batuque modules were engineered at VWS Westgarth's UK offices in East Kilbride near Glasgow, and Gloucester; based on a detailed project specification and vendor list.

The modules were constructed in a Singapore fabrication yard with clean sheets in respect of HSE statistics, achieving the common VWS Westgarth and customer objective of delivering the plant with zero lost time incidents.

Successful completion of these modules further establishes both the SRP as the industry recognised solution to reservoir scale management, and VWS Westgarth's world leading position in the design and supply of this specialist technology.
